2004 CTC Labor Day Outing

Approximately 30 Cascade Club members and eight guests enjoyed a beautiful Labor Day outing at Indian Flat campground on the east side of Chinook Pass. The weekend was filled with sunshine, games, a detecting hunt, campfires, and a little rock stacking.

Michael Childs was the winner of the guessing game by guessing the exact amount of money ($2.37) in the jar of candy and coins. Not on did he win the jar, coins, and money he also got the silver round for a prize.

Winners of the dice game were Jennsyn Chaney in first place, Marci Mechler in second and Mark Leighton was third. Contestants had three rolls of three dice to accumulate the highest amount of points.

“Team Valente” was the winner of the Brain Buster game and a silver half by answering 20 of the 60 questions correctly. Ralph Shape was second and John Shape was third each with 12 questions correct. Ralph won the silver quarter by luck of the draw. Although some of the answers to the questions were debated the judge’s decision was final!

Tracy Steffenson was the winner of a silver round by placing first in the “In or Out” game. Contestants had to drop a quarter into a bucket of water and land the quarter in the small cup at the bottom. The person who had the most quarters land inside the cup was declared the winner. Debbie Leighton and Tracy Steffenson were tied with the most quarters in the cup and had a drop off to find the winner. Thanks to Larry Steffenson for being creative and discovering a secrete that changed the game and resulted in many people dropping all three quarters into the cup just a little late in the game!

The rock stacking competition was a great success again. Contestants were stacking rocks all weekend but did not know the “twist” that was in store for them! Once all of the rocks were stacked and the judging was to begin a category was drawn from a hat and the rock stacks were judged on what was drawn. Out of the several choices that were available the rock stacking winner was the stack that had the least amount of rocks in it. Eric Valente was not only the youngest contestant but was also the winner of a silver half by only having 5 rocks in his stack. Great job Eric!
